Disclosed is a sludge treatment method which can satisfactorily improve dewaterability in sludge treatment, suppress the generation of odours during sludge treatment, and improve the transportability of dewatered sludge. The disclosed sludge treatment method has: an addition step in which a carbide is added to sludge and a mixed sludge is obtained; a thickening step in which the mixed sludge is separated by sedimentation and a thickened sludge is obtained; and a dewatering step in which the thickened sludge is dewatered and a dewatered sludge is obtained. The sludge treatment method is characterised in that carbide particles having an average particle diameter between 0.5μand 100μm inclusive are used as the carbide in the addition step. The amount of carbide added in the addition step should preferably be between 0.5 % by mass and 5% by mass inclusive relative to the solid volume of the sludge before the addition. The sludge treatment further has a slurrification step in which the added matter is suspended in water to obtain a carbide slurry, and the carbide slurry is preferably added to the sludge in the addition step.
